A penalty from Hulk just before halftime proved enough for Porto to claim all three points against Vitoria Setubal at the Dragao. The win ensured that Andre Villas Boas’ side remain unbeaten this season as they restored their 8-point lead at the top of the Liga Sagres.
Yet Vitoria were robbed by a terribly inconsistent series of decisions from the match referee Elmano Santos during a last gasp penalty episode.
Vitoria thought they had snatch an equaliser when Jailson dispatched an 88th minute penalty into the net. But immediately the goal was chalked off by ref Santos for an encroachment by Porto’s Ruben at first instance.
With Ruben having unjustly managed to chalk off Jailson’s first penalty attempt, salt was then rubbed in the Vitoria’s wound as Jailson ballooned his second attempt over the bar. That miss was upheld by ref Santos despite the fact that once again Ruben clearly was standing inside the penalty box when the spot-kick was taken.
If the first penalty was ruled out, why not the second?.
