Carina Lau wants Andy Lau to thank Carol Chu for her sacrifices
The Hong Kong actress was the guest for Andy Lau’s final concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum
Hong Kong Heavenly King Andy Lau celebrated the final night of his anniversary concert with a slew of good friends. But there is one person that he might regret inviting on stage now.
His sold-out concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, on Jan 8, was his 20th to celebrate 30 years in showbiz.
Andy's guests for the night included Idy Chan, who acted with him in The Return of the Condor Hero as Little Dragon Maiden. Both of them shared a duet, 'The Courageous Chinese'.
Also joining him on stage were fellow actors who formed TVB's Five Tiger Generals with Andy back in the 80s - Felix Wong, Michael Miu and Kent Tong. The fifth 'tiger' was Tony Leung who could not make it to the event. Instead, his wife Carina Lau appeared on stage to sing.
"She's stronger than most men and is really the Empress Wu Zetian (Carina's role in Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phanton Flame) in my heart," introduced Andy.
When Carina appeared on stage with a bouquet of flowers, she said, "Congratulations, Di Renjie (Andy's role in Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phanton Flame). I'm here on behalf of the Grand Master (Tony Leung's role in The Grand Master), who hopes that you will have a better production than Internal Affairs."
Carina also complimented Andy, saying that he represented a high standard in work attitude and professionalism.
"Thank you to Andy's parents. Because of you, there is Andy Lau. Another person we need to thank is ... her," said Carina, pointing to someone down stage.
The Hong Kong actress seemed to refer to Andy's wife, the low-profile Carol Chu, who was there to show her support. Andy became awkward after hearing her words, circling the stage with the bouquet of flowers.
Carina continued, "It is not easy to be a woman. Andy sacrificed his diet, but she (Carol Chu) sacrificed more than him. I wish you happiness."
She later performed a song, 'Celebrity'.
At the celebration party, Andy said he "was not expecting (Carina to say what she said during the concert) ... she (Carina Lau) really believed she was Empress Wu. I wanted to walk away then".
When asked if he agreed to what Carina said, Andy quickly told the media to let him off.
